TABLE FOR ONE

A small-scale curatorial experiment on the horizontal plane

Have a seat...

Table for One is a small-scale curatorial experiment where artwork is displayed on the horizontal plane. My artwork is typically created on a tabletop, so I am displaying it in the same mode it was born. Artwork is photographically documented to capture the art making process. This form of curation can be seen in many forms: the table-scape in ceremony, the tableau on the stage in dance and theater, the table-top alter of Kwanzaa, and the still-life in painting tradition.

The name Table for One references the phrase 'a seat at the table' which aims to break down barriers regarding gender and race inclusion in important decision making circles. I have literally created my own table for art making and curation regardless of audience, publicity, or commercial gain. The experience and process of art making and curation, along with the act of documentation, are of greater importance.
