Dee Dee is a drummer in the band Barbie and the Rockers. In the first film, Barbie and the Rockers: Out of This World, the band performs a benefit concert in outer space after winning an award for world peace. In Barbie and the Sensations: Rockin’ Back to Earth, Dee Dee sings harmonies and the band travels back in time to 1959 when they re-enter the atmosphere. I vividly remember watching Barbie and the Rockers on VHS as a pre-schooler and Dee Dee was my favorite with her glorious fro, yellow outfit, and floating lipstick in zero gravity! These pictures are very fuzzy, but you can see the 80s glam on YouTube and watch both movies. My illustration style is definitely a product of my time with very flat shapes and crisp outlines drawn and colored by hand.
