The Power of Positive Representation

April 30, 2023 in Inspiration

As a child, I had framed images of beautiful African American girls and women in my bedroom, similar to this one. My mother made sure that the imagery around me was soft and positive. This shaped who I am today and the art I make now. My confidence and femininity were molded by these images.

I saw this image while thrifting in 2022 and had to take a picture. With the Halle Bailey’s Little Mermaid opening May 26th, I hope a new generation of African American girls get that same warm feeling.

Have a Pleasant Day!
